Editorial summary

An eligible Hong Kong-registered, non-government and non-subvented enterprise can apply for training support on a 1:1 matching basis. The current ceiling is HK$250,000 per enterprise in each financial year, and each trainee may receive support for one course per financial year.

Write down the job change first

Before choosing a course, identify what the employee should be able to design, operate, analyse or troubleshoot afterwards. That makes it easier to distinguish advanced training from a broad introductory seminar.

The employee needs relevant background or experience. A short note connecting current duties, the technology gap and the post-training assignment is more useful than repeating the course brochure.

Public and tailor-made courses follow different routes

Public courses must first be registered by an eligible training provider. A tailor-made course is proposed for a particular enterprise or group of enterprises and is submitted with the training-grant application. Check registration status before paying a non-refundable fee.

Know the current limits

Since 1 August 2025, the Government and enterprise generally share eligible cost equally. The annual ceiling is HK$250,000 per company and one supported course per trainee per financial year. Reimbursement is the normal mode, with an option to request a 50% partial advance of the approved grant.
